Hi everyone,

My name is Cydney Hargro & I'm glad you've decided to visit my column. I'm excited to share this journey with anyone who wants to know about it. I welcome comments, questions, and suggestions- but please don't get crazy or irate because no one is forcing you to read the blog and your comment will be deleted.
This endeavor is three fold and I hope that over the next few months I am able to accomplish all of these things. 1- keep in touch with friends and family to share my thoughts and experiences 2- keep a personal account of my time in Paris 3- provide a resource to those considering studying abroad.

For the sake of people I may not know personally I will provide a little background info. I am a fourth year University of Florida student majoring in Family, Youth and Community Sciences. I love various activities like cooking, African dance (although I'm not good at it), and listening to GOOD music. I decided that it was time for me to study abroad about a year ago because I had been putting it off for a very long time (since Freshman year). Now fast-forward to a few months ago I applied to my program in late April of this year (maybe even May) needless to say I missed the deadline- procrastination at it's finest. Hint: if you are serious about studying abroad you will want to plan ahead and meet the deadline, I got extremely lucky. The program I am on is a UF operated program called International Relations in the Public Sphere (IAPS). I will be in Paris all Fall learning about international relations, international diplomacy, french language and culture, and about myself and the other people on my trip.

This summer has been my time to "get things in order" (which I will blog about more extensively later), say my farewells, and prepare for living in another culture. This is my first time out of the country and I only know survival phrases (where's the bathroom?, how much?, which direction?, chicken sandwhich?, etc.) in French. Honestly, it is a little scary being that there are so many unknowns. However, previous students have raved about my program and I'm confident that I can do this, so I'm excited and I welcome you to the journey!
